Which Heartstopper Character Are You Based on Your Star Sign?

Published on 7/6/2022

A queer love story between two British teenagers - cute, but why are we so obsessed?

Netflix’s ‘Heartstopper’ has taken both screens and social media by storm. It was among the top 10 English series on Netflix within two days of release, with viewers and critics applauding the tone and pacing, as well as LGBTQIA representation. Within a month of release, it was renewed for a second and third season, which will also be adapted from the graphic novels by Alice Oseman.

But we’ve got to keep ourselves entertained while we eagerly await new seasons, so let's take a moment to find our Heartstopper astrological twin. I’ve assigned each Heartstopper character to a star sign, not based on their birthday but rather their personalities. Find your star sign and see which Heartstopper character you are based on your star sign.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)

Let’s start with one of the purest star signs, the humble Aquarius. Our Heartstopper Aquarius is Mr Ajayi. This star sign is known to be innovative, progressive and shamelessly revolutionary. The sign of the water bearer symbolises bringing water, and thus life, onto land. Mr Ajayi is a calming and stable presence for Charlie. The show references how he helped Charlie when he was being bullied and urges him to open up. This Aquarius is focused on making high school a better experience for Charlie than it perhaps was for himself.

And that revolutionary streak can be seen in how he also pushes Charlie. He doesn’t just provide a safe haven, but he urges Charlie to be better and demand better. He won’t let him just hide from his troubles, but pushes Charlie to deal with them. A round of applause for our noble Aquarius!

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

Speaking of Charlie, we’ve got our resident Pisces right here in the titular role. You could replace the symbol of Pisces, two fishes swimming in opposite directions, with Charlie’s face, as he sums up this astrological sign perfectly.

Those two fishes actually represent a Pisces’ constant struggle between fantasy and reality. We often see Charlie imagining how a situation will go, and constantly daydreaming, only to be faced with a harsher reality. He’s a dreamer and almost lacks the thick skin needed to encounter real life.

Pisces are the most intuitive and empathetic of all the star signs, as shown by how Charlie is thoughtful and caring, unable to hate even Ben. Pisces are also known to be highly sensitive, which we can see in Charlie by how much he is affected by what people say and do, and how he takes all this pain on his own. He is driven by his joy, pain, hope and fear, like a true Pisces would be.

Aries (March 21 - April 19)

The name Aries comes from Ares, the Greek God of War, which gives you a hint at this fiery star sign. It may be no surprise that our Heartstopper Aries is Tao, but don’t worry, this isn’t a bad thing!

Aries love to be in first place, and this competitive streak can be seen in Tao. He feels threatened losing Charlie to Nick and at Elle making new friends at school, even though he is happy for his friends.

They’ll dive headfirst into challenging situations, and nothing sums this up better than how Tao will defend Charlie. He is unafraid to go against Harry and other bullies to protect the people he loves. He will literally fight to defend his friends. That fiery streak drives him and pushes him to be bold and stand out from the crowd. Tao thrives in how he differs from everyone else - a little too much sometimes!

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)

Despite having less than a dozen lines throughout the show, Isaac was a fan favourite! This Taurus thrives in serene and relaxing environments, loving nothing more than to sit in a corner with a good book.

Taurus’ are all about love, beauty and money, and will focus their energy on comfort and luxury. I can definitely imagine Isaac enjoying a day of pampering or relaxing in the tub with his favourite novel.

Given that this sign is represented by a bull, it’s no surprise that they’re also known for their stubbornness. I can imagine Isaac being unwilling to compromise on his comfort or push himself into new situations. But with this stubbornness comes a fierce loyalty, as a Taurus will always choose their friends and loved ones, just like Isaac sticks by his pals through thick and thin.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)

The long wait is over, we’ve finally reached Nick, our Gemini! This star sign is recognised by its twin symbols, and Nick sure does have energy for two. He is playful and spontaneous, and whenever I’m watching him, I can’t help but think of a golden retriever. Despite being his love interest, Nick is Charlie’s opposite in every way.

This symbol of twins also captures Nick’s struggle between two worlds, his desire to fit in with his friends but to also follow his heart; to be who he is and who he wants to be.

Gemini’s are also driven by an insatiable curiosity, a need to know absolutely everything! While Nick doesn’t seem to quite excel in school, he is eager to try, conveyed by how he won’t let Charlie do his homework. When he begins questioning his sexuality, he is frustrated by a lack of knowledge and understanding, so he reads articles and takes quizzes.

Nick is everything good about a Gemini! Although I will admit, I briefly considered making him a Leo.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

Represented by the crab, Cancer is all about that hard shell and softer exterior. Charlie’s older sister, Tori appears aloof and perhaps even cold to the rest of the world, as she remains under her hard shell of protection. But she does this to protect herself and would do anything to protect the people she loves. She is fiercely protective of Charlie and aims to keep him under her safe shell as well.

Cancer is also a highly intuitive star sign, as they read everyone around them. Tori was the first to read Nick when he came over and is always very in-tune with how Charlie is feeling. She is constantly reading people, even when she’s keeping her distance. She’d rather understand the world around her than participate in it herself.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

Let’s turn to our favourite ALLY, Imogen! As I mentioned previously, I briefly considered whether Nick would be our Heartopper Leo, but Imogen truly takes the cake. Leo is known to be passionate, loyal and painstakingly dramatic. Imogen is truly a drama queen, eager to be the centre of attention and unafraid to be bold. She’s theatrical, as seen by her iconic ‘I’m an ALLY!’ line that sent Tiktok into a frenzy.

Leo’s also follow their heart, as Imogen did when pursuing Nick. But they don’t allow this to overcome their loyalty, demonstrated by how Imogen supported Nick even after he rejected her, and was happy for him with Charlie. Imogen has a lot to learn and grow, but her heart’s in the right place.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

If you want something done, you give it to a Virgo, or in this case, to Elle. Virgos are logical and practical, taking a systematic approach to life. They keep themselves and everyone around them grounded, focusing on hard work.

Elle is shown to work hard at school, citing homework as a reason to leave an event or hangout. But she also cares deeply about her friends, dropping everything to see them and always providing a listening ear. She is a little unsure of herself, but once she gets to know someone, she really lets her true colours shine.

She is shown to be the most logical of the friend group and provides practical advice to them all.

Libra (September 23 - October 22)

Everyone recognises the scales of justice that symbolise a Libra, they’re all about equilibrium. Tara is our Libra, always balancing matters of the heart and mind. She is clearly smitten with Darcy, her girlfriend, but also struggles to ignore what people think of her. She is trying to balance who she is as a person with the expectations that accompany her sexuality.

Despite their strive for order, Libra’s also guide themselves by their heart. Tara befriends Elle when she sees how lonely she is, and Tara is also sympathetic to Nick despite not knowing him well. She is a warm character that helps to guide other characters on their journey.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)

I’d like to preface this by saying that I’m a Scorpio myself, so don’t get too mad at me, as I’m throwing myself under the bus here too. But when it came to finding a Scorpio in the Heartstopper cast, I had to admit that it’s Ben - at least it isn’t Harry!

I’m not going to excuse Ben’s actions in the slightest. He causes Charlie a lot of pain, and shows the negative side to Scorpios through his self-sabotaging behaviour and cruelty.

But Scorpios also have a lot of good to them! They crave emotional intimacy and physical closeness, which is what Ben hopes to get from Charlie, but his internalised homophobia keeps getting in the way. Scorpios are passionate, they love and hate fiercely. And their jealousy can get the better of them, as seen by how Ben is furious to find out about Nick and Charlie.

Let’s hope season two gives us a better Scorpio character for this list!

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)

Sagittarians are on a permanent quest for knowledge and adventure, and Darcy is no different! She is filled with boundless energy, always jumping about our screens and eager to try anything. Darcy loves without abandon and seems to be always willing to try new things.

She is adventurous and eager, and seems to be more comfortable with taking her relationship with Tara public. She is shown to be intelligent but eager to take shortcuts and rely on Tara.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)

And last, but certainly not least, we’ve reached our final star sign. Capricorns can easily be overlooked compared to other powerful astrological signs, but Nick’s mum, Sarah, reminds us why we shouldn’t forget these vital individuals. Capricorns are all about time and patience. Sarah doesn’t push Nick to tell her what’s going on, even when she can tell that Charlie is very special to him. She waits for Nick to come to her and is supportive when he does. She perseveres to support her son and provide a stable home for him. Even though Sarah only had a few scenes in season 1, she quickly stole our hearts.

The most powerful scene with Sarah was when Nick came out to her, and in that moment she displayed all of her Capricorn tendencies flawlessly. She listened carefully and responded warmly, ensuring Nick felt loved and supported.

Now that you know your Heartstopper astrological twin, you’ll need to wait until season 2 to cheer them on! In the meantime, you could rewatch this incredible show with this knowledge. Or try the graphic novels that the series is based on, and discover why bingeing a series is even better than a Netflix show!

While mental illness is beginning to be discussed more openly, and featured in the media, I still think there is room for improvement. So whether it is mental illness or merely mental health, a bad day or a bad year, let's make this a place to approach it and strip it back. Everyone has their own symptoms of living, and you certainly won't be the only one with it.
